Case study · Liquid egg · Premium, Grupo Proa
The utility bill arrives once a month. Consumption happens at every panel.
Premium, Grupo Proa’s liquid egg plant, meters its energy per electrical panel, its water with flow meters and every boiler start. The first finding was not in the total but in a detail the bill does not show: power factor.

01The client
Premium is Grupo Proa’s liquid egg plant in San Bernardo. It is one of the group’s businesses where iGromi operates under the same contract as egg counting, and it has its own instance of the iGromi platform.
02The problem
A liquid egg plant consumes water, energy and steam at every stage, but consumption is known from the monthly bill: one total, late, with no way to tell which panel, machine or shift explains it. That number pays the bill; it fixes nothing.
03What was installed
- Energy metering per panel: kWh, power and power factor per phase
- Water flow with flow meters
- Boiler run hours: a wireless node wired to the burner logs every start with start time, end time, duration and daily total
- Generator readings
- Readings from the wastewater treatment plant PLC, read-only: iGromi never writes to the PLC
- An export API over the internet, no VPN, so the client’s systems can read the data
04How it went live
Water and energy telemetry went live on October 13, 2026. The next day, October 14, the export API was delivered so the client’s systems consume the same data the plant sees, without relying on a VPN.
05Measured results
The first finding: power factor dropped as low as 0.70, below the 0.93 required by Chilean regulation. Low power factor is paid as a surcharge on the bill, and the monthly total gives no way of knowing where it originates.
With metering per panel and per phase, the problem stops being a surcharge on the bill and gets a panel and a time of day. That is what makes it fixable.
- Energy per panel and per phase, water and boiler in a single view
- Every boiler start logged, with its duration and the daily total
- Data available to the client’s systems via API
06What comes next and what we learned
The next step is the KPI, not the total. The stated goal is to express consumption as kWh and liters of water per unit produced. It is not a result yet: we will publish it when there is a measurement to back it.
The data has to leave the plant and reach the client’s systems. That is why the API was delivered the day after go-live, without a VPN: a measurement that only shows on one of our screens is useless for the client’s management.
Read-only. The wastewater plant PLC is read without ever writing to it. Any adjustment in the plant is decided and made by a person.
This is one of the three named cases in the guide to industrial artificial intelligence, along with Grupo Proa and Ditzler.
